Human Rights Day

Human Rights Day is an international United Nations holiday celebrated on December 10  every year. This day aims at spreading awareness about Human Rights across the world and encouraging people to stand up and fight for their rights, regardless of where they are from.

It also celebrates the anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10, 1948. 

Article 12 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), which states:

"The States Parties to the present Covenant recognize the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health."

It also outlines steps that should be taken to achieve the full realization of this right, which include:

  1. The reduction of infant mortality and the healthy development of children.

  2. The improvement of environmental and industrial hygiene.

  3. The prevention, treatment, and control of diseases.

  4. The creation of conditions that would ensure medical service and attention to all in the event of sickness.

Tobacco control is essential to safeguarding the right to health by preventing tobacco-related diseases and protecting public health.
